Ninety episodes were aired over two three-year runs. The first run was based directly on Herriot's books; the second was filmed with original scripts.

Due to its popularity the show inspired an unofficial spinoff, Zoboomafoo, another show created by the Kratts, which premiered on January 25, 1999.

Brilliant Creatures is a children's wildlife TV show which produced six series and aired in the UK on ITV's children's slot CITV between 1998 and 2003. It was produced by The Foundation. The original presenters were Terry Nutkins and Gail McKenna. Presenters in later series included Chris Rogers in series 2 and from series 4, the show continued to be presented by Gail McKenna who was joined by Stephen Mulhern.
The X Creatures is a British documentary television series that was produced by the BBC in 1998, which was broadcast in 1999 on BBC 1. It was presented by Chris Packham, and examined the possibility of the existence of cryptozoological creatures. The name of the show was a reference to the popular fictional television show The X-Files. Each episode involved Chris Packham travelling to a certain place on Earth where the creature supposedly exists, and examining eye witness accounts, as opposed to searching for the creature. No VHS or DVD releases were ever made.
